We welcome you -

Makes no difference who you are, or where you are on your faith journey; Christ died for you.  We welcome you.

Makes no difference if you are married, single, divorced, widowed; old, young, baby boomer, great generation, or me generation; Black, Latino, Native American, Asian or White; straight, gay, or not sure.  We welcome you.

Makes no difference if you think you know the answers or you don't even know the questions.  If you are a seeker of God's truth, if you need fellowship, support, encouragement, enlightenment, and compassionate understanding on your journey,

We welcome you to the Episcopal Church of the Messiah - across from the Cherokee County Courthouse in Murphy, North Carolina.

The Three Legged Stool

In the Episcopal Church, we often talk about our beliefs in terms of a three-legged stool.  One leg is the Bible, a second leg is the Tradition (The Nicene and Apostles' Creeds, the decisions of the early church councils, the writings of theologians and reformers down through the centuries) and the third leg is Reason, the God-given capacity to think about the world we live in.  Not every leg is of equal length or importance in thinking about every question of of faith, but working together they give us a balanced, sturdy and ever adapting faith that is rooted in God's goodness to us in the past, that looks forward to God's future with hope, and that dares to love and act in the present.
