Pastor Maggie Rourk

            Ordained in 1987, Dr. Maggie Rourk attended Furman University, graduated from Greensboro (NC) College, and did graduate studies at The Citadel and at the College of Charleston.  She taught high school English and French for a number of years, and worked with attorneys and in business as well before going to seminary.  She earned her Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from The Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia (doctoral thesis in theology and homiletics). 

           She was Associate Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC, for 3 1/2 years, and then Director of Church and Public Relations and editor/writer for all seminary publications at Southern Seminary in Columbia for 12 years.  After 10 years as Senior Pastor at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax, VA, she and her husband David moved to Portland, OR, in late 2012.

            Having served five parishes as Interim Pastor during her years on the seminary staff, she continues to serve the church as a parish transitional specialist.  She was Interim at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in The Dalles, OR, for 2 years (2013-1014), and also supplied in the Portland area.  In October 2015 she and David moved to the Asheville, NC, area and live in Fletcher.

            From April through December 2016 she served as Interim Pastor at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Andrews, NC, and then as supply priest/pastor at Grace Mountainside Church (an Episcopal/Lutheran parish) in Robbinsville, for January and February 2017 and has been serving here at Messiah since April, 2017. 

            Pr. Maggie and David have been married for forty-seven years.  They have two sons, Edwin (Beth) of Portland, OR, and Matthew (April) of Asheville, NC, plus grandchildren Tiernan, 7; Santana, 16; and Jason, 20.

Trudy Bennett, Organist and Choir Director

Trudy is a native of Greer, SC where she attended Anderson College.  She furthered her education at Mars Hill College, in North Carolina.  She has led the music ministry at Messiah since 2004.  Trudy works full-time as an Office Administrator at  Chatuge Family Practice in Hayesville.
